INTRODUCING
ALICIA AND BRENDA AS GUIDES
When reviewing DNA material, it is certainly helpful to have the university biology classes and nutritional certification courses in Human Anatomy that Brenda Wollenberg and Alicia Mazari have taken.
Our additional training in nutritional genomics (Exercise, Cardiovascular Health, Immunology, Detoxification, Metabolic Management, and Mood and Cognition) gives further understanding of how to interpret genetic variations in a way that is helpful, practical and understandable.
Even beyond those layers of undergrad degrees and Registered Holistic Nutritionist certification, however, Alicia is a PhD biologist and has taught, for decades, at a post-secondary level, including at several BC universities, and at the Boucher School of Naturopathic Medicine. Bottom line?
Alicia knows DNA.
Understanding the role of genetics in our health, however, is not simply a matter of science. That's where Brenda's additional education comes in.
We know that epigenetics (environment) plays an important role in gene expression but we do not yet completely understand the complex interactions between various genes and exactly how environmental factors such as adverse childhood experiences, trauma and stress will affect a gene's expression.
With over a decade of training and employment in the field of social work, Brenda is a specialist in helping clients not only "get" the science of their genetics but in assisting them in "seeing" patterns of behavior that may have contributed to unhelpful gene expression.
Then, Brenda helps clients "shift" that behaviour to one that is more supportive of overall wellness.
When clients understand gene interplay and see how stress responses contribute to heightened risk, then the dietary tools and stress-management suggestions Brenda makes to mitigate those risks make a lot of sense. Bottom line?
Brenda knows "seeing" and "shifting."
